Hardy Amies - Debut Eyewear Collection
Sir Hardy Amies was the king of British style back in the day - In 1961 Hardy Amies held his very first men’s catwalk show but for more than 40 years he was the Queen’s official dressmaker and he is 1 of only 4 British designers to be knighted.
He may have died almost a decade ago, but of late his label has been going through something of a renaissance after he sold his business a few years before and tried to capitalise on that fame by emphasising womenswear - a tactic that unravelled in 2008 when the company went into administration.
Now that the men's collection is under the creative hands of Claire Malcolm, Hardy Amies has once again garnered its well deserved praise around the world. The flagship British luxury fashion house in London’s Saville Row proudly acknowledges its heritage and legacy and was sumptuously restored back in 2009.
For A/W '12 Hardy Amies launch their eyewear collection - showcased in two showrooms on the upper floor of their Saville Row store - but are also available online through Hardy Amies Eyewear.
The collection is made of handmade lightweight Italian acetate and allergy free titanium. All designs are based on vintage frames, but with more stronger edgy lines and cleaner silhouettes creating a contemporary masculine look. The collection comes a classic choice of gloss black, turtle shell brown, steel grey and gold.
Each style of glasses is named after a Maida Vale street as a nod to Amies's birthplace. Made in Japan and produced in an individually numbered limited edition, Hardy Amies themselves describe the glasses as having "a definitive sense of tailoring and structure, precision, masculinity and strength."
