Jonathan Saunders S/S '13
“I wanted to create some continuity between my mens and womens wear and I
think that really comes across in this season, it is all about colour
and texture,” explains Scottish designer, Jonathan Sauders.
For S/S '13 Saunder's takes inspiration from iconic musician David Bowie with his painterly clothes and confident use of empowering psychedelic colour choices, graphical gradient textural prints, featured on a variation of enviable clothing. Classically cut pinstriped blazers in bright hues and geometric patterns emblazoned on shirts were strikingly bold. Polka dots, stripes, geometric fades of colour, short-sleeve shirts, twinsets, T-shirts, casual jackets, intricately woven knitwear and sharp suiting were all drenched in pop hues.
The collection reflects a concoction of innovative crafted textiles and an effortless ability to balance colour effectively without being too much of a good thing. Saunders’s confidence in execution is clear and the rock-n-roll 70's inspired ensembles which retained his signature colour mastery in a masculine context.
Stand outs include the belted trench which is a striking focal point of this spring’s lineup with a great use of shape and details, ranging from zippered seams to oversize buttons. Meanwhile, sharp narrow trousers were the perfect complement to smart knitwear and a youthful mix of sportswear that included drawstring shorts and my 'like' grasshopper green bomber jacket.
It's a rarity to bring such a rainbow of colour into one collection without it becoming a clashed up mash up of monstrosity, yet Saunders has applied this in a sleek yet playful form and appropriately brought out the best of colour mixing for S/S '13.
